la nostra storia

In the heart of
Old Town.

Restaurang Agaton, a warm mix of the Swedish and Italian kitchens, in a candle-lit room with first-class service. In a house first mentioned half a millennium ago, on Västerlånggatan 72 since 1999.

Benvenuti

Where the old embraces
the new.

Here in Old Town the old has embraced the new since time immemorial. You can almost feel the wing-beat of history finding its way through medieval alleys, over cobblestones, corners and recesses, finally letting the candles on your table flicker softly.

Since the house was first mentioned, half a millennium ago, countless owners have come and gone. For the sake of time and space, we'll skip straight to 1999, when the cool fashion boutique Agaton became a restaurant. Our own story begins here.

For more than twenty years, the best of Sweden has embraced the best of Italy at this address.

curiosità

Curiosities from Old Town

A walk through Old Town offers many stories from history's hidden corners. Every house and every alley carries the heritage and traditions of the city between the bridges, as Stockholm was originally called. Our house has changed costume many times over the centuries.

1521

A dilapidated stone shed

In 1521 there was an old, dilapidated stone shed on this spot, the first mention of the building we stand in today.

1617

Alderman Petter Grönberg

When alderman Petter Grönberg bought the house in 1617 it was reportedly in very poor shape. He had it properly restored.

1680

Elisabeth Funck

The house was bought by Elisabeth Funck. The purchase also included "the large space between the lady's house and the wide alley by Kornhamn".

1860

Merchant Wallin

In the 1860s the house came under merchant Wallin's ownership. He had the era's big novelty installed, cast-iron shop windows on the ground and first floors.

1922

The firm Robert Ditzinger

The house was bought by the firm Robert Ditzinger. In 1924 they began a more than ten-year-long renovation and stayed in the block until 1968, when Kapp-Ahl took over most of the firm's premises.

1980s

Men's outfitter on the ground floor

The whole house was converted for office use, and on the ground floor opened an elegant men's outfitter by the name of Agaton.

1999

Change of costume

After 18 years as a classic outfitter the space changed costume, into a restaurant, keeping the same name. Our own history begins here, with the pasta roller and the first guests.

Today

Ristorante Agaton

At the same address since 1999. Still Italian pizza, still handmade pasta, and still the best of Sweden embracing the best of Italy.
